OPEN CALL TO ARTISTS
AROUND THE WORLD
TO PARTICIPATE IN
THE LOCKER ROOM PROJECT
There are three elements to The Locker Room Project.
1. The Show.
The Locker Room is a one-month fine art exhibition and installation hosted
by Ghettogloss. This is an international traveling exhibit. The installation
is designed to feel like a P.E. gym locker room. Each locker is custom
built and assigned to a different artist, who has full creative control
and responsibility for their own locker, and in turn, reaps 50% of the
profit from any sale of their locker. The Locker Room Project is a conceptual
show, and each locker will be for sale. All
items installed in the locker must be legal. Aside from that, there are
no restrictions on what can go in the locker. A portion of all proceeds
will be donated to help fund art programs in public schools.
2. The Book.
Ghettogloss has a publishing deal to produce a Locker Room book series.
All artists who participate in the Locker Room Project are guaranteed
at least one published page in the book featuring the contents of their
locker, their name, and their artist statement. Ghettogloss retains all
of the rights to The Locker Room Project book.
3. The Documentary.
All artists included will go on camera describing
their most significant locker room experience, which will play as a video
installation during the exhibition. In addition, Ghettogloss will be
documenting all Locker Room shows as part of a documentary. Ghettogloss
is in the midst of a distribution deal with a very high-profile production
company designated to release the documentary after the completion of
the project. All artists will be required to sign a release. Ghettogloss
retains all of the rights to the documentary of The Locker Room Project.

4. The Cause.
The main motivation behind the Locker Room Project was to raise awareness
in the lack of funds in the public school art education programs, and
to do something about it. “When we were both in high school we were
never exposed to art and it was not until later in college that we became
full time artists. We were just talking about how sad it was for high
school kids to not have the proper exposure to art in public schools
and how much of a difference it really could have made. While reminiscing
about high-school, we had similar feelings about our lockers, swapped
stories, and thus the Locker Room Project started coming together.“
Towards this end, a portion of the proceeds raised by The Locker Room
Project will be donated to The HeArt Project. The HeArt Project creatively
links overlooked teenagers in alternative high schools with professional
artists, cultural centers, and communities to imagine, produce and present
new work. The HeArt Project believes that overlooked young people are extraordinarily
creative, that artists are a significant civic resource, and that their
ideas, collaborations and work benefit the entire culture. Operating on
a “conceptual ladder” philosophy, The HeArt Project implements
its innovative arts programming on three levels: workshops and public presentations,
after-school residencies and leadership training, and summer scholarships.
